Every year the AIDS Legal Council of Chicago pays special tribute to outstanding individuals who are working to make a difference in the lives of persons with HIV and AIDS. These men and women are civic leaders and activists, attorneys and legislators, doctors and administrators. They are on the front lines of the epidemic and their efforts bring care, housing and other vital services to thousands living with HIV, their families and their loved ones.
Honorees are selected through a nomination process which members of the public are encouraged to join. A committee of previous awardees review nominations in six categories and announce the winners in October, with the awards ceremony taking place in April. The six categories are:
- Outstanding Health Care Advocate
- Outstanding Community Advocate
- Outstanding Advocate in Client Services
- Outstanding Philanthropic Advocate
- Outstanding Volunteer
- Outstanding Emerging Leader
